Both energy producers and large energy consumers are obliged to inform of the origin of the energy they produce or consume.
Guarantees of origin were introduced to promote sustainability and to provide financial incentives to invest in renewable energy production, and guarantees of origin can be sold separately. There must therefore not be a physical link between the production unit where GO's is produced and where it is consumed. As a producer, you can sell energy to one client and GO's to another.
