The journey began with a vision to merge and mobility, leading to the development of the Mobee app, a brainchild of a collaboration between Trondheim municipality, the technology company FourC, and Spark by Volue.

Unveiling the Vision: A Confluence of Energy and Mobility

Klaus Livik, an innovation advisor at Trondheim municipality, explains how the project was born out of the City Exchange program, a collaborative effort towards a more sustainable city.

Putting citizens at the centre of innovation is crucial, and that’s what we were able to do on this project. We are committed to environmental sustainability and want to encourage residents to actively drive the green shift.

Tor Rune Skoglund, the CEO of FourC that developed the application, wanted to empower citizens to make informed decisions about their transportation choices while reducing their carbon footprint.

The journey wasn't without its challenges. The project required a holistic approach, engaging various stakeholders who were initially hesitant to share data due to concerns about business interests. Klaus noted the pivotal role played by Trondheim municipality as a neutral partner, advocating for the greater good and fostering collaboration among stakeholders. Overcoming these obstacles was essential to creating a unified platform that could serve the community's diverse needs.

Aligning stakeholders and defining the project's citizen-centric approach was vital to set the tone for success.

Power Forecast as Bill Reducing Tool

As the project progressed, the Mobee app emerged as a versatile tool that not only helps people navigate the city but also navigate high power prices.

The app's integration with Spark’s energy forecasting APIs allows users to optimise their power consumption habits. Charging their EVs, or starting the washing cycle based on the forecast reduces their bills and contributes to a more stable and sustainable grid while speeding up the green shift.

The Road Ahead: Scaling and Enhancing the Mobee Experience

As the Mobee app takes its first steps toward broader adoption, the focus remains on expanding its offerings and enhancing the user experience. Tor Rune envisions a future where Mobee integrates even more services, leveraging the evolving landscape of mobility and electrification.

This collaboration has set the stage for potential partnerships with service providers and moremunicipalities, leading to an ecosystem of solutions that serve the best interests of people who use the app.

As the project continues to mature and scale, it serves as an example of how innovation can be harnessed to create meaningful change in communities. The path to a more sustainable future is paved with initiatives where technology, collaboration, and a citizen-centric approach converge to make a lasting impact.
